F3GROUP would like to welcome back Edward Adams, who is returning to us from Oxford Brookes University, having completed his studies in Quantity Surveying. Ed worked at F3GROUP on a placement year in 2015 before returning to university to finish his degree; he then took some time out to go travelling.

We asked Ed about his placement year at F3GROUP, as well as his year out after completing his degree, and his hopes and aspirations for the future. Here’s what he had to say…

I completed my placement year at F3GROUP between September 2015 and June 2016, where I began developing the key skills required to become a Quantity Surveyor. In that time, I worked in F3GROUP’s project team on a variety of projects, gaining valuable hands-on experience in Commercial Management. I had such a positive experience which cemented my desire to return to F3GROUP.

I decided to take six months out after finishing my degree, and backpacked around America, South America and South-East Asia. I found travelling energising after a busy final year at university. The experience was invaluable as I gained an insight into other cultures and experiences. A highlight of mine included completing my PADI Advanced Open Water Scuba Diving course in the beautiful tropical seas surrounding Bali and Thailand, where I even encountered a Manta Ray.

Another highlight was staying four days in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, deep in the Amazon rainforest. During this time, I came face to face with Caimans, dolphins, monkeys and other diverse flower and fauna.

Having recently returned to F3GROUP’s Commercial team as an Assistant Commercial Manager, I have been involved in a variety of projects, from a prime residential refurbishment in Central London to several large residential development projects.

I ensure my work ethic and dedication to each task I perform is high and my professional nature allows me to communicate effectively with clients. I am based at the Gatwick office, occasionally travelling to the London office and to various sites. I believe that having a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude throughout all challenges is very important and I try to maintain this wherever I am based.

I am already excited to see the achievements I am still to build with F3GROUP and continue my progression as I broaden my experience and skillset. I have started the process of becoming a Chartered Quantity Surveyor with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and I hope to be Chartered in two years. I have aspirations of becoming a Senior Commercial Manager within the next five years.

At F3GROUP, we are mindful of the ongoing skills shortage within the construction industry, and therefore the importance of engaging with our younger generations to fill this gap. If you are a graduate looking for opportunities in the construction and real estate industry, please email us: info@f3g.uk.
